Common Questions

Black Scribble Border

Here are some questions I get asked the most:

"What is a sport psychologist?”

“What do you actually do every day?”

"How did you become a

sport psychologist?"

I use my psychological knowledge and skills to help athletes, athletic personnel (like coaches, administrators, and athletic trainers), performers, and executives be their best mentally.

I work in a wide range of settings, levels of competition, and ages, from recreational youth athletes to professional and Olympic athletes.

I get to do lots of different things. Some days I have one-on-one clients who are working on being better versions of themselves. Other days I get to talk with big groups of people about how to get better and win--in sport or in the boardroom. And sometimes I’m on the sidelines at practices or games observing. Whatever I’m doing, I’m having fun.

The major requirements to being a sport psychologist are having a doctoral degree in a primary area of psychology and being licensed as a psychologist--this is how I learned all the clinical stuff. After graduation, I took extra classes and worked extra hours to become a CMPC--this is how I learned the sport + performance stuff.
